Apple's 'Pro and Tell' Event: Touchscreen MacBook Pro Expected

Apple's Oct. 28 launch looks set to deliver its first touchscreen and first OLED laptop, plus M6 updates and a long-rumored OLED iPad Mini, according to The Verge.

Apple is back on stage again. Coming soon after its Welcome Home event and the iPhone Duo announcement, the company's "Pro and tell" launch is set for Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m. ET, and all signs point to the MacBook Pro taking center stage, The Verge reported. Nothing is confirmed, but here is what is widely expected.

The touchscreen MacBook Pro

A MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen has been rumored since at least early 2023, and this may finally be the moment. It would be Apple's first touchscreen laptop and its first with an OLED display. Reports suggest it will borrow the iPhone's Dynamic Island, but The Verge cautions against expecting an iPad-style overhaul of macOS; touches like a magnification effect when the screen is tapped and new gestures in Apple's own apps may be the extent of it.

The name MacBook Ultra has circulated, though The Verge considers a rebrand of the flagship line unlikely. The model is expected to stay on the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with Apple possibly holding its higher-end processors until an M7 generation next year.

M6 updates and an OLED iPad Mini

The base MacBook Pro could move from the M5 to the M6, which debuted in the Mac Mini in August, and may get a small redesign with a hole-punch camera. Prices are expected to rise, however, as component shortages ripple through Apple's lineup.

The iMac is also tipped for an M6 refresh nearly two years after its last update, skipping the M5 entirely, possibly with new colors but few other changes.

Finally, the OLED iPad Mini may arrive. Apart from the iPad Pro, Apple's tablets have used LCD screens, so the switch could signal a broader transition. The new display might add $100 to the price, and the chip is expected to jump from the A17 to the A20 that launched in the iPhone 18.
