Cody Rhodes Thinks The Rock Has a Couple of Matches Left

The WWE star told Chris Van Vliet he believes Dwayne Johnson could still return to the ring, though the decision, and any rematch, rests entirely with The Rock.

Cody Rhodes is not ready to rule out one more chapter with The Rock. Speaking on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Rhodes said he believes Dwayne Johnson still has a little left to give inside a wrestling ring.

"I think personally he has a couple of matches probably left to do," Rhodes said when asked about a possible singles bout between them, according to Wrestling Inc. He explained that he was not dodging the question so much as unsure how to answer it.

Up to The Rock

Rhodes acknowledged that Johnson, who sits on the board and has given a great deal to the business, could easily view his WrestleMania 40 appearance as a fitting final performance. Whether there is more, and what those matches might look like, will be entirely The Rock's decision, Rhodes said. But he added that no wrestler would honestly say they did not want a match like that.

The Rock, now 54, last wrestled on night one of WrestleMania 40, teaming with Roman Reigns against Rhodes and Seth Rollins. Johnson pinned Rhodes for the win, which also put Bloodline Rules in place for the title main event a night later.

Still waiting

Back then, Johnson suggested he might return for more, and singles bouts with both Reigns and Rhodes were discussed at various points. Two and a half years on, neither has happened. Johnson has stayed involved in storylines with The Bloodline and Rhodes, including the angle that produced John Cena's heel turn at Elimination Chamber 2025.

For now, Rhodes' comments keep the door open, but the next move belongs to The Rock.
