This time the Russells must reckon with what Bertha's climb to the summit of society has cost. Agnes van Rhijn sees an opening to recover her standing, Marian heads somewhere new and Peggy works to win over the family she is marrying into. The large ensemble is led by Christine Baranski, Carrie Coon, Audra McDonald, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, Denée Benton and Louisa Jacobson, and also features Phylicia Rashad and Bill Camp, with Salli Richardson-Whitfield directing and executive producing.
Drama and a young Bourdain
City of God: The Fight Rages On returns Nov. 8 with six episodes. The drug lord Curió is dead, and a brutal fight over his territory follows: councilwoman Berenice (Roberta Rodrigues) takes on corruption and a growing militia, lawyer Jerusa (Andréia Horta) goes after those who destroyed her family, and Leka (Luellem de Castro) organizes the community through funk and dance parties. Aly Muritiba directs, with Fernando Meirelles and Andrea Barata Ribeiro producing.
On Nov. 20, A24's Tony arrives with Dominic Sessa playing Anthony Bourdain at 19, during a summer in a chaotic restaurant kitchen that shaped his path. Matt Johnson directs, and Emilia Jones, Leo Woodall and Antonio Banderas co-star.
Four new documentaries
The second half of the month belongs to nonfiction. Dawn Porter's When a Witness Recants (Nov. 17), executive produced by Ta-Nehisi Coates, reexamines a 1983 killing that put three innocent teenagers behind bars for life until witnesses admitted they had been pushed into lying. The Hotline (Nov. 18), from Ricki Stern and Jesse Sweet, follows Never Use Alone, a volunteer line that stays with people using opioids and summons EMS if they go quiet.
Ben Proudfoot's The Buffalo Miracle (Nov. 24), with Josh Allen among its executive producers, tells of strangers who waited out a historic blizzard in a McDonald's that never closed. Rachel Fleit's The Slightest Touch (Nov. 25) follows Emma Fogarty, who has the rare skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa, as she celebrates turning 40 by running the Dublin Marathon alongside her longtime friend Colin Farrell.

The library fills up for the season on Nov. 1 with Elf, The Polar Express, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Studio Ghibli's Calcifer Yule Log, plus a Dune pairing of David Lynch's film and Jodorowsky's Dune.
