Police say a 23-year-old drew a butcher knife after an argument with a crew member on the Joseph Kosinski film starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler. Nobody was injured.

Production on Miami Vice '85 was interrupted Friday night when a man pulled a butcher knife on a member of the crew, according to the New York Police Department.

Police identified the man as Alex Perez, 23, and said he was arrested a little after 11 p.m. and charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. A 42-year-old man told officers he had argued with Perez before the knife came out, an NYPD spokesperson told The Hollywood Reporter. Deadline, also citing the NYPD, reported that the crew member said the encounter left him afraid for his safety.

Officers took Perez into custody and seized the knife, and nobody was hurt, police said. Footage first published by TMZ shows Perez being handcuffed before an officer pulls a large knife from the pocket of his sweatshirt, Variety reported. Deadline said it had asked Universal for comment.

The production

Cameras began rolling on the Universal reboot this month, with Jordan spotted shooting in character as Ricardo Tubbs. Butler plays Sonny Crockett, and first-look images of the pair were released earlier in October. Kosinski directs from a script by Dan Gilroy, with Deadline also crediting Eric Warren Singer. Walton Goggins, John Leguizamo, Whitney Peak and Alden Ehrenreich are among the supporting cast.

The film reimagines the 1980s NBC crime series that starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, drawing on its pilot and first season. Reports differ on when it will open: Variety lists an Aug. 6, 2027 theatrical release, while The Hollywood Reporter puts the date at May 19, 2028.
