Vulture's Weekend Watchlist: Sorkin's Facebook Film and Other Mommy

Vulture's picks for the weekend range from Aaron Sorkin's Facebook drama to a Jessica Chastain horror film, a 3-D Pan's Labyrinth and an Oasis documentary.

Vulture's weekend viewing guide leads with The Social Reckoning, Aaron Sorkin's new film about Facebook, and surrounds it with a horror release, a quirky comedy, a theatrical re-release and two options for the couch.

New in theaters

According to Vulture, The Social Reckoning has a hard act to follow in The Social Network, though it shares only Sorkin and Mark Zuckerberg as subject matter with that film. Jeremy Strong takes over as Zuckerberg. Mikey Madison plays Frances Haugen, a Facebook employee who became an informant, and Jeremy Allen White plays Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz, who received her documents.

Other Mommy is the horror pick. Jessica Chastain plays both Ursula and the monster that poses as Ursula to her child, Bela. Vulture says the creature finds more openings as the parents' relationship fractures, with Jay Duplass as Dad.

Small Prophets, from the creator of Detectorists, stars Pearce Quigley and Michael Palin as part of a grieving man's story. Vulture's Kathryn VanArendonk describes it as a small, pleasantly odd comedy in which he uses alchemy to make hundreds of jars of fortune-telling creatures.

Back on the big screen

Pan's Labyrinth returns to theaters 20 years after its release. Vulture notes that Guillermo del Toro reworked the dark fantasy into 3-D, so audiences can revisit Ofelia's world in the new format.

At home

Under its Halloween streaming heading, Vulture lists Evil Dead Burn. The film follows Alice (Souheila Yacoub), who is stuck with her late husband's unforgiving family after his fatal car accident, until Deadites arrive.

Oasis: Don't Look Back in Anger, the band's documentary, is heading to streaming after an Imax run. Vulture says it does not get into the specifics of the Liam and Noel Gallagher split and reunion, but it does capture the affection for the band felt by fans and by the brothers themselves.

Vulture also offers a lighter note on going alone or with friends: bring company for Other Mommy, and consider solo viewing for Pan's Labyrinth.
