Jordan Brand will bring back the original Air Jordan 12 "Obsidian" in early 2027, Hypebeast reported. It would be the first time the high-top colorway has been at retail in 15 years, since its last retro in 2012.
The pair carries the style code CT8013-401 and an MSRP of $215 USD. Hypebeast lists Nike as the place to buy.
What the Sneaker Looks Like
The "Obsidian" first appeared in 1997 and was designed by Tinker Hatfield. According to Hypebeast, it stands out in the Air Jordan 12 family because it skips the Chicago Bulls palette that defined many of the model's original colorways.
The official colorway is Obsidian/French Blue-University Blue-White. The upper is dark navy leather with stitched panels, and Hypebeast says the stitching draws on the Rising Sun flag. White mudguards and Carolina blue touches on the branding details complete the look.
Hypebeast says the 2027 version follows the original specifications, with the navy leather base, textured white mudguards and signature stitching all restored. An Air Jordan 12 Low in the colorway arrived in 2004, the outlet noted, but the high-top has not returned since 2012.
A Date Discrepancy
The report is not consistent about timing. Its spec list gives the release date as January 27, 2027, while the closing line says the shoe launches on January 23, 2027. Hypebeast does not explain the difference, so buyers should wait for confirmation from Nike or Jordan Brand before planning around either day.
Why It Matters
For collectors, the news is mostly about a long gap. A colorway that Hypebeast calls one of the most recognizable non-court-worn models in Michael Jordan's signature catalog has been off shelves for a decade and a half, and a faithful return is now set for 2027.
