Cam Little's 57-Yard Kick Lifts Jaguars Past Eagles, 19-17

Cam Little booted a 57-yard field goal with one second left after Ameer Abdullah's 53-yard kickoff return, and Nick Sirianni took the blame for the call that kept the ball in play.

Cam Little made the second of two field goals in the last eight seconds, a 57-yarder with one second remaining, to give the Jacksonville Jaguars a 19-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The win stretched Jacksonville's streak to three games and moved the team to 4-1.

The Eagles, now 2-3, have lost three in a row. Jake Elliott had put them in front 17-16 with a 48-yard kick, but that lead lasted only a few ticks of the clock.

The final eight seconds

Philadelphia chose to leave the kickoff in play rather than send it into the end zone, according to CBS Sports. Ameer Abdullah took advantage, racing 53 yards to the Eagles' 39 before being brought down with a second left. That put Little in range, and Yahoo reported that he ripped off his helmet and sprinted toward the fans as his teammates chased him down.

Sirianni did not hide from it afterward. "I didn't make the right decision, and I lost us that game," the Eagles coach said, per CBS Sports. He declined to explain the thinking behind the call.

A messy, penalty-filled game

The night started with chaos. Josh Cameron returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for what looked like a Jaguars touchdown, but a holding flag erased it. Yahoo reported that Eagles linebacker Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and Jaguars defensive end Bryan Thomas Jr. were both thrown out after a scuffle on that same play.

Jacksonville still scored first, with Trevor Lawrence finding Parker Washington on a 51-yard catch-and-run. Will Shipley's two-yard run and Darius Cooper's 62-yard touchdown catch pushed the Eagles ahead 14-7 at the break, per the Guardian. Yahoo listed the halftime score as 14-3, though the scoring sequence reported by the Guardian points to 14-7. The Eagles also stopped Jacksonville at the goal line on the last play of the half, with Zach Baun tackling Bhayshul Tuten.

Little cut the gap with a 34-yard field goal to open the second half. Later, a trio of procedural penalties wrecked a first-and-goal at the 1-yard line and Jacksonville turned the ball over on downs. Washington's 27-yard touchdown gave the Jaguars a 16-14 lead with 3:20 left, though Little missed the extra point after a high snap from backup long snapper DaVon Hamilton.

The numbers

Jacksonville committed 13 penalties for 100 yards yet outgained Philadelphia 408-232. Lawrence completed 24 of 39 passes for 331 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Washington had six catches for 124 yards and two scores, and Brenton Strange added seven catches for 68 yards.

Jalen Hurts went 21 of 40 for 220 yards and a touchdown. Cooper finished with two catches for 71 yards. The Eagles played without running backs Saquon Barkley and Tank Bigsby, then lost Shipley during the game; he ended with 22 rushing yards. Elliott's kick was Philadelphia's first second-half score since Week 2 against the Tennessee Titans on 20 September.

Why it matters

CBS Sports Research noted that the Eagles are under .500 for the first time since 2021, and that the loss ended a franchise-record run of 76 games at .500 or better. For Jacksonville, the win came despite self-inflicted errors, a sign of a team that can survive its own mistakes. For Philadelphia, a one-second loss has turned a rough stretch into a harder conversation about late-game decisions.
