Hudson Williams Is Writing a Film, and Hockey Keeps Getting in the Way

The Heated Rivalry star says a former hockey player in his new script feels too close to his breakout role, but the character just works better that way.

Hudson Williams cannot quite leave the rink behind. The actor, who became a star playing Montreal Metros player Shane Hollander on Heated Rivalry, told Entertainment Weekly he is writing a movie in which one character is a former hockey player, and that the overlap has given him pause, Deadline and Variety reported.

"We're getting tripped up on it and we're considering other sports," Williams said, explaining that the character still made far more sense with a hockey past. He described the challenge as needing to break out of the limits of his own thinking.

Not his first script

Writing is not new territory for Williams. Before the queer hockey romance made him famous over the past year, he wrote and directed several short films, including Soakers, Buttons and Inside Augustine Mendoza's Quotidian Apartment, according to Variety. He did not share further details about the new project.

The comments came during an interview for Yaga, a witchy detective thriller co-starring Carrie-Anne Moss that premiered Oct. 23.

A busy slate

Production on the second season of Heated Rivalry began in August. Jacob Tierney's Crave Original series is adapting Rachel Reid's Game Changer novel The Long Game for the new season, with Justice Smith, Charlie Gillespie and Emily Hampshire among the new cast members, and it is set to premiere in spring 2027.

Williams also has roles in Apparatus, a dark comic thriller opposite Dylan O'Brien, and Tyrant, a culinary thriller with Charlize Theron, Julia Garner, Demi Moore and Omar Apollo.
