Nicki Minaj's alignment with Donald Trump reached cruising altitude on Sunday, Oct. 25. The rapper flew with the president and members of his administration aboard Air Force One to a Republican rally for Senate candidate Mike Rogers, sharing a video of herself strolling the plane with the caption #AirForceOneBARBIE, Billboard reported.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung posted his own clip of a mock interview with Minaj on board, in which she lavished praise on Trump. "Ladies and gentlemen, I think we may have found the new White House Press Secretary!" Cheung wrote, according to Consequence.
On stage at the rally
Trump introduced Minaj as the queen of rap, after drawing attention with crude remarks about her backside that quickly went viral. At the podium, Minaj said it was an honor to stand with Trump, promised to support him forever and said she would back him again if he ran again. She credited him with changing the country's energy and giving people a brighter future, led a chant of support for the president and urged the crowd to elect Republican candidates.
She also turned to transgender issues, telling the audience she did not want children exposed to what she called sex changes.
A year of courting Trump
Speculation about Minaj and the press secretary role follows the firing of Katie Zacharia on Oct. 16, just five days into the job, Billboard reported. Minaj has spent 2026 drawing closer to the administration: she first met Trump at a Trump Accounts Summit in January, where she declared herself his No. 1 fan, served as a judge for the administration's Million Dollar Pitch Competition for small businesses and visited the Oval Office on Oct. 20, afterward writing on X that she was staying right where she needed to be.
Trump has returned the affection, calling her a fantastic person at a presidential luncheon in July. Minaj's most recent album, 2023's Pink Friday 2, topped the Billboard 200.
