Amazon MGM Studios has a new Stargate series in development, with WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer leading it. Deadline reported that sources confirmed Schaeffer is working on the project under her overall deal with the studio. Variety was first to report the news, and Amazon declined to comment.
Who Is Involved
Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell will executive produce alongside Schaeffer, according to Deadline. The outlet's sources also said a writers room has already opened.
A Second Attempt
This is the franchise's second try at a new series. Prime Video gave a series order in November 2025 to a reboot from Stargate veteran Martin Gero. In June, it was revealed that the project would not go forward. Sources told Deadline at the time that the show had finished a 20-week writers room and had entered pre-production when it was pulled.
Stargate was one of the first MGM titles flagged for series or film adaptations after Amazon bought the studio in 2022 for $8.5 billion, Deadline noted.
The Franchise So Far
Stargate began as a 1994 feature film created by Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin. It led to a run of television series. Stargate SG-1 aired from 1997 to 2007, and Stargate Atlantis ran from 2004 to 2009. Stargate Universe followed from 2009 to 2011, and the animated Stargate Infinity aired from 2002 to 2003.
The reports do not say when the new series might be ready, or which platform will carry it.
